LIBRARY

The ISAR Library is an academic research library focusing on Islamic sciences, Ottoman studies, modern Western thought, and social sciences. Both in terms of its collection structure and user services, it is designed specifically for postgraduate researchers.

The library collection is multilingual, primarily in Arabic, Ottoman Turkish, Persian, Turkish, English, and French. This collection covers a wide range of topics, from classical texts to contemporary academic works, rare manuscripts to reference sources. In addition to Islamic sciences such as philosophy, theology, sufism, fiqh, hadith, tafsir, and linguistics, it also offers a rich variety of resources in modern disciplines such as history, sociology, political science, epistemology, and hermeneutics.

Today, the collection of over 30,000 books and journals is constantly growing and being updated through regular high-quality acquisitions as well as local and international donations. This provides a dynamic working environment for researchers seeking access to both classic and contemporary literature.

The library offers services such as borrowing, digital scanning, and resource consulting with its catalog system and user-friendly interface. It supports intensive research processes with its private study rooms and access to digital resources. In addition to ISAR students and alumni, external academics and researchers can also use the library under certain conditions.

The library is not merely a place that provides access to information; it is also positioned as a center of learning that encourages interdisciplinary research, supports academic production, and nurtures the intellectual depth of engaging with science.

ISAR BOOKBINDING OFFICE

ISAR BOOKBINDING OFFICE

The Bookbinding Office, operating within the ISAR Library, was established in March 2017 with the aim of restoring rare works that were written during the Ottoman period but have become unreadable over time due to wear and tear. The workshop, which continues its work under the responsibility of Bookbinder Muharrem Kalenci, offers a wide range of restoration services by combining both classical and modern techniques.

The Bookbinding Office not only binds and restores books, but also restores various types of historical documents such as maps, decrees, certificates, and letters. In addition to printed works, manuscripts are also carefully bound and their paper is restored. During these processes, the original structure of the work is preserved by adhering to the materials and techniques of the period.

The restoration of elegant examples of classical Turkish bookbinding is carried out using traditional leather, gold leaf, and marbling techniques, while works with Western-style bindings are restored in accordance with the aesthetic sensibilities of the relevant period and geography. As a restoration center specializing in both Eastern and Western book arts, ISAR Bookbinding Office plays an important role in the preservation of cultural heritage.

The workshop also offers practical learning opportunities for researchers and artists who wish to receive training in this field, thereby contributing to the transfer of the art of bookbinding and restoration to future generations.
